Raymond Depardon was a very young photographer when he made his first reports in 1961 in pre-independence Algeria. In 2019, the man who has since become one of the greatest photographers of his time returned to Algeria, where he befriended the Algerian writer Kamel Daoud. Together, they created a book and an exhibition combining the photographs of one with the texts of the other. They build a bridge between two eras of the same country, bearing witness to its turbulence and beauty.
